RC RTF Plane Insurance

RC RTF Plane Insurance

Rc Helicopter

When you're just starting to learn to fly your RC RTF plane, you're going to find out that accidents are common things. This doesn't in any way mean that you're doing something wrong, although you probably are, though it does mean that you need to improve a bit. Just because your technique needs to be improved doesn't mean that you need to have your plane destroyed and your chances of progressing any further stamped out now does it? This is why it's very important to make sure that you get insurance.

It is recommended that you at least have liability insurance on your plane, which will cover personal injury incidents. Personal injury could be anything from hurting someone else to damaging their property. For example, if you are out in some secluded field playing with your RC Plane, and you somehow manage to lodge it in the side of a falling satellite, then your liability insurance should cover it. Higher insurance packages will cover the accident even if you are at fault, so that's definitely something that you need to consider.

One thing that you need to take into account when you are purchasing insurance for your RC RTF plane is the fact that you will pay quite a bit more for insurance if your plane is powered by gas. The reason for this is that they're much harder to control and can be much more dangerous. By default the insurance on these is through the roof.

If you want good insurance you should look into joining the Academy of Model Aeronautics which is also known as the AMA. This will provide you insurance which is meant to be secondary to homeowners insurance. You will receive up to a million dollars worth of protection so long as you adhered to the AMA's safety regulations while you are learning. This isn't going to be much of a problem since most of those safety regulations are common sense.

The AMA also helps groups to obtain and hold onto flying fields along with other issue related to the flying of model planes. If you are so inclined there's a monthly magazine that you can get that outlines everything going on within the AMA, as well as covering all of the occurrences within the model aviation world.

The AMA is actually a good idea in general because many clubs that you can join will require membership. Since you're already paying for membership it's a good idea to just go with their insurance anyway. You will also find that AMA membership is a requirement for many contests.

Accidents happen, that's a fact of life. Whether you're at fault or the other person is at fault it's going to happen, so make sure that you have the right insurance. Chances are you know exactly what's right for you, so go ahead and see what you can find. Chances are this will help you out quite a bit in the long run! Enjoy your RC RTF plane!

Wild Hawk RC Plane Aerial Camera footage

Wild Hawk RC Plane Aerial Camera footage On YouTube.

CAMREA INFO BELOW Having fun on a beautiful summer evening with the Wild Hawk RC plane outfitted with a very small "spy" camera I picked up on ebay for aerial videography. This footage is among our first attempts, and I was quite pleased with the results with all things considered. I hope to shoot more video of other locations in the future. I found the camera on ebay and got it direct from China. Nitroplanes.com and RCSuperpowers.com sell/promote larger versions of cameras that are advertised for this purpose, but with much less memory for a much higher price. This camera is called the "808 car keys micro-camera" and was roughly , with 4GB internal memory, USB cable, and 640x480 video capability. It's the size of a keyless remote entry fob and works great for this purpose. All and more than you ever wanted to know about this camera found here: chucklohr.com

RC Planes for Beginners - Ready to Fly Radio Control Planes

RC Planes for Beginners - Ready to Fly Radio Control Planes

Rc Helicopter

Since the beginning of time, humanity has been fascinated with flight. From early attempts to imitate birds to the application of mechanical ingenuity and the scientific method to the problem, man finally, after much trial and error, on Dec. 17, 1903 accomplished the first successful, controlled, heavier than air flight. Since that day at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, progress has taken place by leaps and bounds until today, global air travel is commonplace. However, not everyone has the time or money to jet to a vacation in a far away land, or to own and operate a private plane. Yet we still may remain enthralled with flying and the airplanes that make it possible. Learning to fly electric, radio remote controlled model planes is a realizable and inexpensive way to satisfy our desire. For those with the flying bug, simple, affordable, easy to use RC planes for beginners are a great place to start.

A quick trip to the local hobby store or a search online will yield many different options of electric Ready to Fly (RTF) RC planes for beginners, from toy to micro planes, park flyers to trainer, and biplanes to gliders. Some RC models are only partially assembled or come with complicated plans for building from scratch. Some enthusiasts love model building, but the majority of newcomers are better served by pre-assembled planes, with all necessary parts - motor, radio system, servos, battery pack, etc. - packaged together and pre-installed. With RTF planes, all you need to do is insert batteries and you are ready to go. Beginner planes, slower flying and more stable than advanced models, are also easier to fly and to repair. Because they are so forgiving, they allow you to build your eye-hand coordination at your own pace.

Another advantage of RC planes for beginners is their affordability. The ability to start with an inexpensive plane is beneficial to novice pilots because crashes are bound to happen. Look for a beginner plane that is crash-resistant but simple to repair when repairs are needed. Also be sure to select a model for which replacement parts are readily available. If they aren't and you total the plane, your only option is to replace it and that can become expensive.

Electric RC Planes For Beginners

Electric RC Planes For Beginners

Rc Helicopter

If you are just initiated into flying radio controlled model airplanes then we suggest that you begin with electric airplanes almost ready to fly (ARF) or ready to fly (RTF).

Some of the planes listed below are supposed to be the best for beginners. Beginners need planes that are quiet and easy to control and the planes listed below are slow enough for you to react and correct in case you get into a bad situation while flying. They are ideal radio controlled airplanes for flying in your backyard or the park.

1.GWS Zero Fighter ARF Park Flyer

2.Cessna 182 Scale RTF 4CH Electric Airplane

3.Parkzone J3 Piper Cub

4.Firebird XL (More on Popular Firebird Electric Models)

5.Sky Angel RTF Electric 2Ch RC Crash Proof Plane

6.Hobby Zone Super Cub RTF Electric

7.RC Sonic Saber 2 RTR 2CH Electric Airplane

8. Begin-Air 4 Channel RTF Electric RC Airplane

It is strongly recommended that beginners start with electric powered planes as they are easy to control and relatively inexpensive, however if you are only interested in flying a nitro powered airplane and are ready to pay for it then the following models are the best nitro powered radio controlled airplanes. These planes provide a very stable flight and come with the radio system installed. These are the perfect models for beginners desirous of flying nitro powered RC planes.

1.Thunder Tiger Trainer MK 11 SC RTF(TTR4523F)

2.Hangar9 Alpha Trainer 40, RTF - HAN 2475

3.Hangar 9 Arrow 40 Semi-Symmetrical Trainer RTF R/C Airplane.

Following accessories are essential when starting with a nitro powered RC airplane.

Field accessory pack consisting a tote bag, glow plugs, four way glow plug wrench, glow plug igniter with a charger and a chicken starting stick (HAN STAR), and manual fuel pump.

Recoil fuel tubing (HAB 151), Standard fuel tubing (DUB 222), Fuel bottle cap fittings (DUB 192), Twelve' AA" size batteries (FUG 4), Nitro airplane fuel (POW 00037), Fuel line filter (DUB 162), and after run oil (PRA 7140).

A flight simulator is recommended to help you learn and get accustomed to the basic understanding of the radio controls and understand how your transmitter works. RealFlight's G 2 Flight Simulator w/Interlink Mode 2 is the best for beginners. You may also opt for RealFlight's G 2 Flight Simulator w/Interlink Mode 2, Or the RealFlight G3 R/C Flight Simulator & Hanger 9FS One with Mode 2 Controller.

Using an instructor will be even better if you are directly flying a nitro-powered airplane. Learning with an instructor is easier and faster, it also increases your comfort level and confidence. An instructor with a trainer system can be connected to a compatible radio. The instructor acts as a backup in case of tight situations and helps in avoiding damage to the airplane. Flying clubs or the Academy of Model Aeronautics is the best place to find an instructor.

What Do You Know About RC Cars?

What Do You Know About RC Cars?

Rc Helicopter

As you probably already know, RC stands for Radio Controlled. An RC car is a battery-operated car, controlled from a certain distance by a remote control.

The first models were running on nitro or gas. The functioning principle is quite easy to understand: the inputs from the remote control's triggers are sent via a transmitter to the car's receiver. From the receiver, the radio signal is interpreted and transformed in electrical impulse. The electrical impulse gets to the speed and servo controllers; this way the car starts functioning.

When thinking of RC cars, people are generally thinking of toys; what you probably do not know is that there are all sorts of radio-control aircrafts, boats, vehicles and even submarines. This radio-controlled madness began in 1966 with an RC Ferrari. Until today, the fever caught many people; there are organized racing events and competitions for RC enthusiasts.

There are two major classes in every RC domain: amateur or toy class and hobby class.
The difference between these classes is considerable. Toy class cars are world wide available and battery-operated. Once in the hobby area you must know that you have more freedom, more power and more speed. What you also need to know is that if you want to make a hobby out of RC cars you must take care of them as if you take care of a real car. Taking care of the engine, the chassis, the suspensions, wheels etc is just part of the daily routine.

My RC experience started when I was a child with a miniature police car. I played with it a long time, and when I grew a little more, I was disappointed that it got stuck very easy on damaged terrain. What I did next is easy to imagine. I modified the chassis and replaced the wheels with bigger ones from some other toy. When the replacing wheels job was over, I faced another problem: the car was slower now due to the modifications.

Working more than usual the engine was also consuming more power and the autonomy of the car was decreased. I started studying and examining the matter and I found myself caught in a fascinating hobby that I am very proud of. This way I lived to be aware of all the improvements that appeared in the world of RC's. For the off-road enthusiasts, manufacturers created aluminum alloy chassis, with stainless-steel ball bearings, nylon wheels and reinforced suspension system. These cars have it all either if you are looking for speed, adrenaline or just fun on a sunny day in the park. What is great about this hobby is that you can be two things at the same time: safe and driving.

Electric RC Helicopter - The Honey Bee King 2

Electric RC Helicopter - The Honey Bee King 2

Rc Helicopter

Once you get to the level of RC helicopter flight skills where the cheaper models don't have enough functionality for you, then it is time to step up to the more advanced models. When you do this, you enter into a whole new world of RC helicopter flight with a complete different set of skills to master. The higher end models don't just hover, turn left and right, and go up and down. They also have the capability to go forwards, backwards, and control the rudder, aileron, elevator, pitch and throttle. A lot of these controls can be new and mesmerizing, but don't give up, simply read you manual and practice, practice, practice.

Ok, so you are ready to move up, which helicopter should you go with? Well, by popular demand, i would recommend the Honey Bee King 2. These fun and feisty little RC helicopters are well known and are great for stunt flying once you have the acquired skills (for a visual example, do a search on YouTube.com for the "Honey Bee King", or check out the video on our site). The Honey Bee King 2 is an electric RC helicopter that comes ready to fly. This means that when you get it there is little to no assembly required. Simply charge your battery, read the manual, and get ready to fly!

What are some of the Honey Bee King 2's features? Well, for starters, it is controlled by a 6-channel remote system. This is one of the higher amount of channel capabilities on electric RC vehicles and has a PIT and PLT mode lock switch and adjustable knob. It has improved blades for superior lift, which have a pop off design that provides extra protection for crash landings. The CCPM mixing control system and collective pitch structure make perfect 3D maneuvers such as roll, inverted flight, and swoop flights possible. This 120 degree CCPM system provides precise movement if comparing with the traditional mechanical mixing since there are less linkage/push-rods in the helicopter greatly reducing its weight. It also features Bell-heller mixing, which greatly increases the sensitivity of the whole helicopter, and provides for great acrobatic response.

The equipped O-ring inside the center hub reduces oscillation of the main blades, and the powerful 370 super carbon brush motor used for the main drive makes the helicopter's flight more stable. The motor is powered by an 11.1v high capacity Li-Po battery, which holds charge for approximately 10 minutes of straight flight time. Another feature is the auto-rotation landing system, made of a high quality one-way bearing, which provides maximum protection from damage for your helicopter. The battery on the Honey Bee King 2 holds firmly in place and can be adjusted to suit your balance of flying. The tail rotor does NOT have a motor. Instead it is driven by a belt which helps to provide stable flight and low noise, and also prevents you from burning up tail motors. And lastly, it has a servo controlled rudder, just like gas helicopters.

How big is it? The Honey Bee King 2 is approximately 535 mm long (21 inches), 225 mm high (8.9 inches), has a flying weight of 470g (16.6 oz), is powered by a 370 super carbon brush motor, and has 4 - 8g servos and an outside piezo gyro.

What comes in the kit? There are two color options, white or yellow. The kit includes the Honey Bee King 2 electric RC helicopter (100% assembled), the 6-channel CCPM multi-functional FM RC Transmitter (remote, batteries not included), the Li-Polymer battery charger with Auto cut-off, a high quality 11.1v 1000mah Li-Polymer rechargeable battery pack, and the instruction manual.

Who should purchase it? This RC helicopter is perfect for people who want to move up from a 4-channel helicopter. It is also great for intermediate pilots or pilots who want to try inverted or 3D aerobatic flight. It is NOT a helicopter for a child.

To see a picture of the Honey Bee King 2, click on WHITE or YELLOW. Also, feel free to check out our other Electric RC Helicopters, or the video of the Honey Bee King on our home page

Beginner's RC Helicopter Buying Guide

Beginner's RC Helicopter Buying Guide

Rc Helicopter

There are hundreds of remote control helicopters available in the market these days. It is important to choose a right helicopter for a right skill level. I am focusing here only for the beginner or novice flyers. There are few things you have to consider when you buy your helicopter at the beginner's level. It is highly recommended that you buy an electric power helicopter because an electric helicopter does not make as loud noise as nitro powered engine and also, it can be flown indoor. The second thing you need to look for is the size of the helicopter. If the size of the fuselage over 12 inch, it makes harder for a novice flyer to fly indoor as it requires more power to lift off making it harder to control. If you have never flown RC helicopter or still leaning, it is to your advantage to start with a small (Mini) electric helicopter as the smaller electric helicopters can be flown indoor in your living room.

You can begin with an inexpensive mini helicopter that cost less than . They come with an infrared control unit and some spare tail rotors. This type of helicopter has only 2 controls. They are up and down and right and left yow. In order to go forward, you may have to add little weight on the front. However, this is good enough to practice to lift off and landing smoothly for the beginners.

The next step up is Megatech House-Fly Unlimited 2.4GHz 8" helicopter. This helicopter has the Megatech dual rotor/fly bar technology which enables the novice pilot to have successful flights even while learning. The rotors are driven by 2 individual motors for each router and 2 servos to control pitch and roll. The turning right and left (yow) is controlled by differential motor speed. The tail rotor is not required in this model. With this kind of helicopter you can hover, go up and down, forward/backward, and slide right and left as well as turn right and left. I highly recommend to buy one like this with comparable functionality. It is very important to that the rotors are driven by 2 separate motors and pith and rolls are controlled by 2 servos. Once you mastered in this kind of helicopter, you can move up to level 2 flyer.

Radio Controlled Helicopters - What is Best Electric Or Nitro?

Radio Controlled Helicopters - What is Best Electric Or Nitro?

Rc Helicopter

RC (radio controlled) helicopters are quickly becoming one of the most popular hobbies for "boys." By "boys" of course we mean adults. We have all gone through Christmas when we were all envious of the toys that the kids were getting and have all been guilty of buying things so that we could actually play with them ourselves. Now, we finally don't have to make excuses anymore as RC helicopters are the perfect toy for us that we don't have to be ashamed of buying.

The fact is RC helicopters are more of an adult hobby than they are toys. After you start to look into the hobby, you will quickly realize it is quite complex and thoroughly enjoyable. There are so many varieties of helicopters available in both style and type. One of the first decisions you are going to have to make is if you want to purchase an electric or nitro powered RC helicopter. They both have great features and in the end, it all comes down to a matter of preference, exactly how much time you have to devote to the hobby, and how much you want to spend on your new hobby.

Before you actually go out and make a purchase, you should really make sure that this hobby is for you. Ideally, you have a friend or relative that owns one and will let you check it out and educate you all about it. If not, you can of course pay a visit to your local hobby shop that carries both types and do your research there. Then of course once you decide what you want you should always start your training with a flight simulator. Regardless of the route you go, this will give you a general idea of what this hobby is about and everything that you are looking for. In most cases, you will find that you are searching the internet or running out to the closest hobby shop and pricing out all the helicopter kits!

Electric Radio Controlled Helicopters present a great option for novice RC helicopter pilots. In general you will usually find that they are a little less expensive and require less maintenance than their counterparts. There is much less of an aspect of maintenance required with them also, therefore electric RC helicopters will take up less of your time. Another feature of electric RC helicopters is that they run much quieter than the nitro helicopters, but this may be a negative to some people. All in all, electric RC helicopters are a great way to start out in the hobby.

Pros of Electric RC Helicopters

o Cheaper start up costs
o Not a lot of maintenance
o Quicker power up
o You do not have to buy expensive gasoline for the engine
o Quieter operation
o Easier to operate
o Will generally be more powerful than a nitro RC helicopter

Cons of Electric RC Helicopters

o Shorter flying times
o Crashes can result in battery breakage which can be very expensive to replace
o Must charge battery between flights

Nitro Radio Controlled Helicopters tend to be a popular choice for the more experienced RC Helicopter pilots. Once you get into the hobby, you will find out why the nitro models can be absolutely addicting. Nitro models are more like flying the real thing. They operate on a petroleum mixture known as Nitro which creates an authentic sound that is actually quite exciting to a lot of enthusiasts. It is almost as though you are flying a real helicopter!

Nitro helicopters will also require a bit of maintenance after their flights, you will have to clean and maintain the parts and engine of the helicopter so that it won't break down on future flights. While this may be considered a negative for the casual hobbyist, this is part of the lure of the people who like nitro RC Helicopters.

Now they obviously run on nitro and there is no way to get around the cost of this. If you fly them on a steady basis, you could realistically spend well over 00 a year on gasoline. Compare that to the cost of about 0 for of a few good batteries for an electric RC helicopter and you can see how some people may find this reason enough to stay away from nitro RC helicopters. For the purist though, this is just a cost to be justified in order to have a more realistic flying experience.

Pros of a Nitro PC Helicopter

o More realistic flying experience
o Shorter time between flights
o Less damage usually incurred during a crash
o Longer flight times

Cons of a Nitro PC Helicopter

o Nitro can be very expensive
o Helicopters require more maintenance (enthusiasts find this is a lure to nitro helicopters)
o Power up time can be longer
o Most not as powerful as electric
o Require a little more knowledge to fly (i.e. combustion engine tune ups, etc)

When you initially look at all of the pros and cons of each type of RC helicopter, on the surface it may seem that an electric one would be much more attractive, but the more involved you become in the hobby, you will find that a lot of the features that may be considered as cons for the novice, are actually pros for the veteran pilot.

An honest recommendation would be to start out with a lower cost electric radio controlled helicopter until you get the hang of the hobby. As you get more involved, you will find that you will naturally purchase a variety of helicopters to fly and during that expansion, you can start to experiment with the nitro helicopters and get a feel for what is required in owning one of them.

You may find that you, like many enthusiasts, get hooked on the upkeep of the nitro helicopter just as much as the actual flying of it. As we stated earlier though, in the end, it is simply a matter of preference. Once you get involved in the hobby, you are more than likely going to make plenty of friends that are also involved in the hobby and you will have ample opportunity to try out more expensive electric helicopters and plenty of nitro helicopters to give you a better idea of what you will enjoy more.

HoverLite is WORST HELICOPTER we accept anytime tested!

HoverLite is WORST HELICOPTER we accept anytime tested! On YouTube.

Buyer Beware, especially if your already a helicopter pilot! "Figuratively speaking" it "flies"! That is to say, it goes UP and DOWN but is NOT steerable! It just spins most of the time. Of course to a new guy that means it is flying! It's up there right? Ha ha. The pilot spends all his flight time jockeying the power, (it has dead spots) to just keep it from hitting the ground! You can't make it go anywhere, except up or down. The tail rotor controls are BACKWARDS, and if you don't know that, the more you try to stop it from spinning, the more it spins....unless you think right is left and left is right for real! And in any breeze, it will go up and be blown away. You cannot fly it anywhere because there is no cyclic pitch, so it goes with the (wind) flow! If you buy it, you may call what your doing flying but to true heli enthusiasts, this is unsatisfactory. You (as countless others have found) will be disappointed in the handling and quality. One hard landing will break the tail boom and rotor, due to blade strikes and poor throttle control! It has no cyclic, no bearings anywhere, no proportionate speed control and it has the tail rotor REVERSED from any other helicopter on the market. What were they thinking? I tried every conceivable thing to make this heli more controllable and was going to pass on the "FIX" to you viewers, however as you saw, there is NO FIX! This helicopter will help no one learn to fly helis, because if they learn to fly it, they will have to un ...

Radio Controlled Helicopters For Beginners - Indoor RC Helicopter Hazards

Radio Controlled Helicopters For Beginners - Indoor RC Helicopter Hazards

Rc Helicopter

When you start your beginner RC helicopter training, there are a number of things you need to keep in mind. Radio controlled helicopters for beginners are generally easier to master than the more advanced models, but quite a few things can go wrong when you do your first indoor training flights.

A mostly indoor RC helicopter such as the Nine Eagles Swordfish is a very stable coaxial machine, and a good introduction to the hobby, but you still need to look out for the following potential problems:

1. The Wall Effect

Indoor helicopter flying has its hazards, and one of the first you will experience in a confined space such as your living room is air turbulence. Even relatively small RC helicopters can create a lot of turbulence from the dual main rotors. Air is pushed down, and then out to the sides, and from there on towards the nearest wall or furniture, from where it will bounce back again in various directions.

If you take off cautiously into a low level tail-in hover, by the time you have just stabilized the aircraft and feeling good about your achievement, the first "side-wash" will probably hit the heli and try to force it to the side. The biggest effect will be felt in the tail which will start turning away from the air pressure, and if you don't correct it in time, you can easily become disorientated when you finally start reacting, as the heli could now be facing you from the side.

Luckily the excellent yaw (sideways movement) dampening gyros even in most radio controlled helicopters for beginners should counter and retard this rotation of the tail so that you will soon learn to correct it in time.

2. The Space Race

This problem may seem self-evident, but it is worth mentioning how it can affect your first indoor training sessions. The fact that I was learning within a very small family room to take off, hover and get comfortable with the cyclic controls for basic forwards, backwards and sideways movement, made me cautious right from the start, as I knew there was very "little room" for error!

It so happens that I had no real crashes during that time, just a few more or less uncontrolled landings, and the rotors brushed various pieces of furniture in the process, but always after I had already cut power.

Soon I was filling the whole cubic area of that room, refining my control of my Nine Eagles Swordfish, all the while careful and wary of sudden side, down or up-washes of turbulent air trying to destroy my safety record!

Then, very cautiously, I started practising side-on hovers. The confined space was now becoming even more of a challenge, as I soon found these hovers, and the disorientation one tries to overcome, were stacking the odds against me. However I pushed on and eventually got comfortable enough to very, very carefully try out some nose-in hovers (the controls by now the opposite from where I started, and often, dangerously, giving "pause to though").

After a few such hovers, just as I felt I was beginning to get instinctive control over the heli, I made one of those "little" over-corrections, now in a nose-in hover, and this time I wasn't so lucky. No major crash resulted, but the rotor clipped a chair on the far side of the room when I slipped the craft too far back, and I had to settle for my first repair (replacing the affected blade with the spare that came in the box).

At that point I decided to find a sports hall, or wait for calm days to continue practising - no more indoors at home for me. The bottom line: for simple basic training, where disorientation isn't yet such a big problem (tail-in maneuvers) a confined space is acceptable, but for further training it just isn't worth the risk.

3. Safe as Houses?

Lastly on a point of safety: If you do your basic training indoors at home, often with other family members or visitors nearby, keep in mind that these spinning rotors are actually quite dangerous. The blade tips move at great speeds, and at the same time you are still learning to control where that lethal blade goes! Little kids may get over-excited by your amazing flying feats and inadvertently run across the path of your indoor RC helicopter!

Flying remote controlled planes is an exciting hobby and can fill your leisure time with endless pleasure. With the amazing range to choose from, you could fly anything from a simple battery operated model or glider to a hi-tech fuel powered engine that could give you speeds up to 250 miles per hour.

Simulations of real planes are got in these tiny scale model airplanes which can give you the virtual reality that you dreamed of.

Anyone can fly these radio operated models with a little guidance and practice. Before you decide on this hi-tech hobby it is advisable to get some information on the different types of models and kits available. You can make a choice between an electric and a gas powered plane. Electric models are comparatively easier to fly and maneuver as they are lighter and comfortable to manage. Models with high wings can be easy to fly and manage as they have more stability; hence electric models are the best for beginners who can then move on to the gas powered ones which need a little more experience as they are a difficult to fly. You could make a choice of either building your own plane from scratch or buying a ready to fly model. Plenty of kit options are available on whichever model you decide to choose.

The satisfaction and excitement of building your own RC plane is worth a try. Remote controlled flying is an enlivening and stimulating hobby where your creativity and technical talents are put to use. Parrot AR Drone and Gyro Flyer - RC Helicopters Race On YouTube.

www.stuff.tv is the best place to go for all things tech. This week, on the Stuff.tv Show, Jools and Lucy have got their hands on two (very different) R helicopters...but which is best? Clearly, the only way to find out is to build a race course and let them loose.

Even in Bad Weather You Can Fly Remote Control Helicopters

Even in Bad Weather You Can Fly Remote Control Helicopters

Rc Helicopter

Flying remote control helicopters isn't just an outdoor hobby. In fact many RC helos work better indoors than out, no matter the time of year, or what's happening with the weather outside.

Helicopter flying is a different playtime event all together. You need plenty of practice, and time to develop a feel for making an aircraft hover over a specific target.

Whether you're on a rescue mission, moving into position to drop a harness to the stranded mountain climber or sinking ship victim, or even lowering in for a landing, any slight wind gust threatens to push you aside. Outside or inside a micro-movement of the control lever, and you suddenly shift many feet away from your target.

Try landing on the heli-deck of a radio control military ship when it's yawing and pitching in heavy seas, and you'll really test your remote control skills. When the weather is cold and snowing, or on those rainy days, you don't want to play outside, and too often on those occasions we abandon our RC helicopters because we fear we'll break something in the house.

You don't need to fly a model to have RC helo fun. When weather chases you indoors it gives you the perfect opportunity to work on your flying skills without any worries of crashing into momma's whatnot cabinet. Take advantage of that idle time to fire up the RC flight simulator, and work on those landing and hovering techniques.

Once you've honed those skills, and made yourself an Ace helicopter pilot, get that chopper into the air and have fun. You can keep playing heli pilot even when that weather chases you inside as long as you have the right aviation toys. You'll probably want a selection of helicopters designed for different missions. When you assemble your collection why not start with one helo for outdoor flying, and another for indoor use. That way you don't have to stop having fun.

Manufacturers design many models for indoor use as well as for outdoor flying. The mini size adapts particularly well inside. Constructed for ease of control and maneuverability, minis allow you to fly around obstacles without contact.

Some mini helos construction includes materials that resist damage when they crash into the wall, a lamp, or to the floor. The damage resisting properties protect the helicopter body from breakage, and help keep the working parts operational.

You'll find RC helicopters specifically made with the beginner in mind. These not only have ease of control and maneuverability built in, but they have landing gear that minimizes damage to the helo body when it plummets to the ground.

Just because the weather threatens your outdoor flying hobbies don't mean an end to your RCing. Set yourself up with a selection of aircraft designed for indoor flight, and keep on cruising the skies.

Don't let cold temperatures, snow, or rain destroy your remote control helicopter flying fun.
